Transitioning from a classical vocalist to a musical theater vocalist?
I’m a classical singer. I went to college and majored in Music (vocal/classical.) I’m now continuing my studies and I am beginning to get into some musical theater. My vocal coach told me to pick a piece that I would like to work on. Idk any musical theater peices that would be good for me. I am a soprano. Since it’s musical theater and I would be belting would I pick something lower? What would be some good songs to work on?
The Singer’s Musical Theatre Anthology – Volume 1, Revised – Soprano
this book has plenty of good stuff, be careful if you go to auditions though not to pick an over done song. even if you can blow it out of the water no one will listen because they’ve heard it a thousand times before. (No Les Miserable, think of me, I could have danced all night, My funny Valentine, etc.)
