Does anyone know what movie theaters will be showing the Mayweather vs Marquez fight?

I have read that this fight will be shown is select theaters across the country but I haven’t been able to find which ones. I’d much rather pay $15 in theaters then paying $50 for the PPV. Especially because someone on my college campus always has it on DVD the next day.

What are the best performing arts universities in Australia?

After I get my general education here in America, I want to get a Bachelors in performing arts (particularly acting) and I’m not sure which schools would be best for that.

There are three top universities: NIDA in Sydney, WAAPA in Perth and VCA in Melbourne. However, they are extremely difficult to get into without a lot of prior experience and/or training and they generally don’t take people who have just graduated from school. And that’s the ones who actually live in Australia. I don’t know how difficult it would be to get in from overseas, but my guess is just as hard.

However, there are also other universities and TAFEs (a TAFE is a practical university, like for hairdressers and plumbers, etc.) that offer courses here in acting. They are infinitely easier to get into and generally offer much the same things. Some of them are straight acting courses, which means you only do acting; some do acting and technical things (design, playwrighting, etc.); some you can major in acting and minor in other subjects.

I also recommend heading to www.theatre.asn.au, a forum for Australian theatre, and see their FAQ. There is a whole article about finding work if you are coming from overseas.

You also need to consider: it may sound wonderful coming over here, but generally speaking, international students pay as much as 10 times the fees to attend than an Australian citizen. You also have to consider living expenses, accommodation (coursees are usually as full time as attending high school, in terms of hours, and can last two to three years), etc etc. That and the acting market here is tough, so once you graduate you still have to work hard to get professional work.

Not trying to be a downer, it’s just practical to think of this stuff ahead of time. If you are planning on heading to Melbourne, I can recommend a few good courses.

I need help with Musical Theater Auditions for college?

I have auditions on Feb 6th but I have to find songs and monologues now so I can practice. The requirements are: Three memorized songs in contrasting styles: 2 art songs at NYSSMA Level 6, one in foreign language, that demonstrates classical singing technique; one musical theater song.

Two memorized monologues, 2 or 3 minutes in length, one serious and one comic.

I usually sing mezzo-soprano. Does anyone have any suggestions for either or both sections of my audition? Please help. Thank you!

Was it inappropriate to tell the movie theater usher I work at a competing movie theater?

Me and my friend got a tour around a first-class movie theater by an usher. He mentioned how it had better services and prices than the other movie theater. I mentioned that I worked at the rival movie theater, and his response was "Oh, so you know what it’s like there then." He chuckled, but I wasn’t sure if he actually liked what I said. Should I have kept my mouth shut?

Hi, I’m Lucy. I’m 19 years old and I would like to further my training as a performer. I have only just started applying to drama school for this September for a BA (Hons) in acting. Do the drama schools take people on a ‘first come first serve’ basis, because if thats the case, then is there any point in me going to all that trouble applying this year? Has anyone got into drama school for this September?

Hi, it depends on the school for which you apply, some might have filled their places but you can still apply for a place to the waiting list and there is always clearing in September were most departments have some open spots left from people that got more than one offer.

Call the departments you are interested in and ask them.

What is the best 6th form course for an aspiring Drama student?

My daughter wants to go into acting and is now in Yr 11 doing her GCSEs. What would be her best option at 6th form – A-levels such as English, Drama, Art; or a performing arts course such as a BTEC?

An A-Level is better than a BTEC. drama and English Literature are good, History is good too.

okay so i am a freshman and want to try out for my schools dance team next year. i have no dance experience but it sounds like so much fun! my friend made the team but shes a freshmen but she had never taken dance before. i have almost a year to train so what do i learn? i know u have to learn splits, kicks, pirouettes, but what else? will it be too weird to try out since ill be a sophomore next year and will be on the team my first year as a junior? any tips?

i am planning to pursue my dream to be an actress. i am totally clueless of what to do. do i really have to study at an acting school just to make it to hollywood?

There’s no such thing as "best" in this kind of a discussion, and anybody who tells you otherwise really doesn’t know what they’re talking about. There are dozens — hundreds — of good actor training programs out there, and the "best" one FOR YOU is the one where you’ll get the sort of training and environment you need.

You need to start collecting information on various actor training centers, and then start visiting them. TALK to the teachers, and see who you connect with. Ask to sit in on classes, so that you can observe how the teachers work with the students.

As for your other question…no, you don’t "have to" study at acting school to be an actor. But, believe me, if you’re coming out here to Los Angeles, and you’re not a trained performer, all you’re gonna do is stand in line with about 10 million OTHER people who have the same idea. Do yourself a favor, and LEARN the craft before you expect to make a career of it.

How many beers until you start acting a bit differently but still under control?

Im 150 pounds and I’m wondering how many beers it should take to start acting a bit differenly but still be under control. I know it’s different for different people and beers and if you ate and stuff. But just for average how many beers do you think it would take for a 150 pounder to start acting differenly without faking it but still be mostly under control for a new drinker.

When I drank it took me about 9 beers to FEEL normal, as in I didn’t have the shakes anymore. By about beer # 12 I had a little buzz, and anything after 15 or so and I was an idiot.

So I would say 9 beers to be totally relaxed and in control for me…I weighed 170 at that time.

Can anybody tell me songs for alto that are in classical style and theater?

I am in a school that also teaches jazz singing but I have to transfer to one that only has classical singing. I know nothing about classical singing, I also need to do some in other language, I speak Spanish so songs also in Italian or Portugues are great.

First off, be aware that "alto" is correct only in choral singing. If you’re still in school, you probably don’t have a contralto voice; you have a voice with incorrect technique that won’t allow you to hit the high notes.

Now for voices with limited range, you can try Handel oratorios and operas, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater (a looooong duet for two female voices in Latin with songs both for duets and one voice alone), Purcell operas and theatre arias, Bach oratorios, and Gluck operas. Some of the nineteenth-century French operas are also accessible to those with limited ranges.

Let’s hope your new teacher will correct your technical deficiencies so that your true abilities are able to emerge.
