I personal chose to wait till the movies come out on DVD. All schools will hold some sort of end of year production that agents and bookers will be invited to. If you decide to go for one, ask what contacts they have and with whom! They will also, mainly, educate you in all areas of the theatre - so not just acting, but stage craft, lighting, set design, dance, singing etc etc which you won't get in a general drama course. The best training, however, is just to act, act, act. School plays, local am-drams, if you have a local pro theatre turn up and offer to help for nothing - you'll only be fetching and carrying backstage, but who knows who you might meet......?
