Where can you get musical theater classes in the Philippines?
I want to take a musical theater class that concentrates mostly on vocal training, but also provides a background on acting, preferably near Manila.
go to a library and ask a librarian or a theater school near you.
What are some teen acting or musical theater camps in Oklahoma City or Texas?
I’m looking for an affordable acting, drama, or musical theater camp for teens. I need to find a camp in Oklahoma City, Norman, or Texas. If they are in Texas they must be residential. The fees need to be under $150.
all drama camps are expensive and filled for this summer..you have to apply in the winter to get in, there is a teen film acting camp at KD Studios in Dallas. Might try them
Broadway Curtains Tickets – the Revival Musical Hit
The tale of love and relationships hits New York with both comedy and drama and pulls it off with style. The new musical on the stage of the “Great White Way” has opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in November 2006 and Broadway Company ticket are the talk of the town. This production is a revival and considered to be a musical. Looking deep into the need for long term meaningful relationships and why they are so important to our society. Created by Stephen Sondeim, who has an award winning history in theater based this musical on a collection of one act short plays and then molded it to be the full Broadway musical it has reached today. The show originally played in 1970 and actually was a huge hit taking home 6 Tony awards and it was one of the first shows in New York Broadway to deal with more serious adult problems in a musical for, rather then a play. Tickets for Curtains are selling on average of $65.00 with premium seating for tickets for Curtains reaching over $200.00
The Story Of Curtains on Broadway
The setting is in New York City and is based around the main character Bobby who is a typical 35 year old bachelor surrounded by his best friends who are all married. Bobby also has three girlfriends who are involved in his life at this critical time. The story takes off with his birthday and his desire for a perfect girl for his important evening. The epiphany is realized at this time when he seems to understand his relationships with women have had no meaning nor an ability for commitment. Bobby is able to see that although his friends have to deal with problems they remain happy within their committed relationships. He quickly begins to see the positive and negative aspects of a non committed relationship as well as those aspects of a committed relationship.
Stephen Sondheim created the score for Curtains and has his name already in the theater scene with such shows as Gypsy and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He also can be credited for writing the lyrics for West Side Story. His award winning history is quite impressive, an Academy Award, several Tony Awards, a Grammy Award and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama with the very successful Sunday in the Park.
Curtains has a nice history on Broadway and was a ground breaking show in it’s day. Unconventional in the way it used a musical genre to accomplish a deep storyline. Still today Curtains proves to have an unconventional look at love and commitment in a changing and sometimes harsh world. The musical has not become dated at all and perhaps was ahead of it’s time in the way love and relationships have progressed from the 1970s to today.
Buying Broadway Curtains Tickets
When buying tickets for Curtains it is always best to plan ahead and call the box office at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. This will save you time and money and guarantee a legitimate Broadway Curtains ticket at face value. If you want to see the show last minute using a ticket broker for the tickets will cost you a bit more money. Regardless of which avenue you must use to obtain tickets for Curtains, catching an off night show or matinee will help to reduce costs and have more tickets available.

What’s a good upbeat song and a good ballad for a musical theater soprano?
I’m doing a musical theater workshop next month, and I need 2 songs: one upbeat and one ballad. I’m a soprano who can hit low notes, as in, I can’t belt. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
"14G" is not a good song to sing…it’s pretty popular because it was written especially for Kristin Chenoweth, and also requires opera training and scatting abilities, which are not the easiest things to do for a singer. I’m also a soprano (classically-trained but not even I would sing "14G".) Here are some songs from my repertoire:
Before I Gaze at You Again – Camelot
Climb Ev’ry Mountain – The Sound of Music
Falling in Love with Love – Boys from Syracuse
How Lovely to Be a Woman – Bye Bye Birdie
I Could’ve Danced All Night – My Fair Lady
I Feel Pretty – West Side Story
I Loved You Once in Silence – Camelot
I Speak Six Languages – 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
If I Were a Bell – Guys and Dolls
It Might as Well Be Spring – State Fair
This Can’t Be Love – Boys from Syracuse
Till There Was You – The Music Man
Wouldn’t it Be Loverly – My Fair Lady (works ONLY with a Cockney accent)
You’ll Never Walk Alone – Carousel
And just to save some poor inexperienced soul from suggesting it, "Phantom" songs are too overdone…as is anything from "Wicked". E-mail me if you’d like more suggestions. Break a leg!

Marquis Theater a Modern Musical Experience
John C. Portman, Jr., the architect/designer of the Marquis which was constructed in 1986, making it the newest legitimate theater to the New York Broadway theater district. Leased by the Nederlander organization the theater is not much to look at and lacks the “true” Broadway architecure of older more classic venues, the theater was built to be more moder, state of the art and offer confort and intamcy which many larger and older theaters simply could never create.
The Marquis theater which is located on the third floor of the Marriot Hotel, did pull off the original attempts, with plush rich red seating and extrodinary views of the stage from every seat in the house and the abilty to handle any production regardless of lighting and sound exuipment. These features give the modern approach to design a bright future for the Theater District of New York. The Marquis has mainly hosted musicals, although it has such abilty to handle any extreme production and opened it’s doors to “Me and My Girl, a british comedy with Robert Lindsay who played the character of Bill Snibson who went on to win the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical. The production opened on August 10th, 1986.
The Marquis continues to play shows which gross large amounts at the box office. Currently playing and receieving rave reviews is “The Drowsy Chaperone” a musical comedy with a heart of gold. Broadway Drowsy Chaperone tickets are available from ticket brokers or the box office for a proce on average of eighty dollars. The Marquis box office is located on the Broadway side of the building, where a small gift shop is located which sells Broadway souvaniers. The walk into the lobby is not as exiting as older theaters, but painted with classic posters giving more to the modern look the owners went for. Through a dark alley filled with small lights which create a ambiance you head up an esuclator to the third floor where the Marquis Theater is located. Arriving early, a short trip to the eight floor would allow for some great views of New York City’s Time Square before the show.

musical theater with no dance experience?
I am planning on carrying out a career in musical theater, but I have no dance training. I actually feel that I am not very talented in that area. How likely are you to get into a PROFESSIONAL career in musical theater with no dance training? advice is needed.
Yes, you can. If you are planning to direct: Some directors hire choreographers if they cannot do it themselves. If are planning to act: often if someone teaches you choreography you can easily pickup the steps. If you have trouble picking up on choreography, you should take dance lessons, something such as jazz dance.
