How do films get played at movie theaters?
Is there a way to improve the films shown at the local theater?
Do theaters buy the movies they show, or is it up to the company where the movies are distributed?
unless you own the theatre, no. Theatres have contracts with distributors and they have contracts with studios. If the distributor doesn’t think the movie will sell in your area, they won’t carry it. By the way, theatres make no money on ticket sales. Nearly all their money comes from concessions. That’s why you pay $15 for a large popcorn and water.
Do you know of any good performing arts boarding schools preferably in California?
Hello,
I really like acting, but I live in NH, and I really want to go to a performing arts high school, but I would also need to live on campus. Thank you very much. God bless.
There are so many wonderful performing arts schools, why would you want to preferably go to one in California? One the hardest performing arts Schools to get into, but one of the greatest, is The Actors Studio. They actually have their own show that airs on Bravo called: "Inside The Actors Studio" hosted by James Lipton. Its a show, where members of the school sit in the audience and take notes on things that the guest of the show talks about. People Ranging from Billy Crystal, to Barbra Streisand have been on that show. I’m not sure if they accept teenagers, but I do know they allowed Barbra Streisand to audition for the school when She Was 15, but at the same time that was in the 50s.
But also in NYC their is The High School Of Performing Arts. Legendary people from Broadway have gone there. Such examples would be Marvin Hamlisch (Composer), and Liza Minnelli (Singer/Actress). It back in the 1960s used to right across the street from Capitol Records, Where Liza Minnelli recorded her first three albums. How convenient that must of been for her to have her recording studio right across the street from her High School.
And as far as a Performing Arts College that I myself, am hoping to attend is Emerson college in Boston, Massachusetts. People such as Mario Cantone (Comedian/Broadway Entertainer) have gone there. Mario Cantone is usually on The View after each major award show doing a rap up. Like after the Tonys he goes on the View and does a Tony Rap up of what he thought of the Tonys, and the same with like The Oscars, Emmys, etc. Other Notable things that he has done has been in the Stephen Sondheim musical, Assassins. Which was on Broadway in the early 2000s, actually I think one of the first performances of the show had to be cancelled because of 9/11. But anyways look up Mario Cantone on YouTube, I think he is one of the funniest comedians ever.
What is a good musical theater school to go to, that also can focus on academics?
I would LOVE to minor in musical theater. Its my passion and joy. But I also am gifted academically, and my parents would rather me be a lawyer. They say music cant sustain a living. Is there a school that can fulfill my geek side, and music geek one?
Definitely! You could go to USC. They actually do not even offer musical theater as a major, just as a minor, so that might work well for you. You could minor in theater at NYU possibly, but I don’t know if they offer that. My money is on USC for the best education and musical theater minor.
How a movie theater can improve its sales?
A Bangladeshi movie theater which is the only one pioneer for using state of the art technolgies in Bangladesh. This theater has three halls those have 600 seating capacity per hall. The theater is situated in a large shopping mall at the central point of the capital city. People have the interest to visit the shopping mall as well as they are intented to watch movies if those are attractive for them. How this theater can improve its sales. I want some innovative ideas for increasing the sales through an effective marketing policy. Do you have any? – A movie watcher.
Get local color in. If there are stages behind those screens, have music presentations, or dance, guest speakers or other forms of entertainment.
Last year, I went to a "dinner" theatre in Dallas, Tx. You buy your tickets at a slightly increased rate from regular seats, go in, sit at tables, and be served drinks and dinner while the movie is playing. It was a terrific combination for those who want dinner and a movie, but didn’t feel inclined to drive all over for two seperate things. That would require modifying the property, though, and you may not want to go that far.
As far as marketing, reach out to local bookstores, see if they have a guest speaker circuit, and find out if you could have that same guest speaker come in to talk to your audiences. Once a month, have a dance troup or symphony orchestra from various places in to perform. Get things listed by date on your marquis, get printed flyers out to local businesses and coffee shops, places where people congregate. Take out an ad in community college newspapers. Reach the median age group in the most effective manner by putting a 30 second ad on tv or radio.
So you will want to figure out your target audience.
Assume the cost is OK, or adjust it to meet the needs of those you want to come in.
Change what you serve at the snack bar, increase the menu and the quality.
Ask a newspaper reporter in to see the place before the changes, and then after you’ve made them. It will make a story for them if something is radically new and different.
Plan a blitz….an advertizing campaing… hit the local folks with everything you would if you were a politian campaigning for votes. They will hear and see the name so often, your theatre will come to mind as the new gathering place for social events in town.
Does anyone know of a good / reputable Drama School in Berkshire for ADULTS?
I would like to take up acting but haven’t been in school for a couple of years now
D and all the classes/schools I find are for 18 years and younger.
Does anyone know of any drama Colleges / Schools for adults?
Thank you.
Is the the Berkshires, MA? Check out the WIlliamstown Theatre Festival. It a little ways out, but it has an amazing apprenticehip program with many oppotunities to get involved (and work up to being a regular performer) in their Equity mainstage productions. The WTF attracts a lot of big names each summer and is a great resume booster. If you’re between 18-25, the Berkshire Theatre Festival also has an apprecticeship program, but it doesn’t have the multi-tier program that WTF does. Both of these are defintely geared towards someone looking for a career in acting, though. If you’re not there yet, i would just suggest contacting your local college to see if you can sign up for a class or if they have know of any independant schools/conservatories.
Good luck!
How do I write a drama script in first person?
I need to write a drama script, in which the story is told in first person. The character interacts with one other person.
How can I lay it out so that the main character tells the story in first person, and the other character speaks in third person?
I think that you could do a big section of what the main character did and how they interacted with the other character and include things like "I replied with" and things like that, then you could do a section on how the character in third person responded and things like that including things lik "Then he said." i think this might work
Are there any good dance schools for beginners in New York?
I am looking for a dance school (preferably ballet and/or modern dance for me a beginner in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Please help.
Thanks to all in advance and have a great day.
There are TONS of dance studios in NY, and most of them offer teen beginner classes. Just open your phonebook and call a few studios to see if they have teen beginner ballet/modern classes.
How can I get into an acting school or gain some acting experience?
I’m 17 years old and I left school after my GCSEs. I want to become an actress/scriptwriter and to achieve this I need to gain experience by going to an acting school and learning all I can about what I want to do, then hopefully going on to get an agent and get myself out there. Which acting schools take people on who haven’t studied past their GCSEs? Thanks
A lot of schools will take you on your ability to do the job and not your academic results. You can check in the "Stage" for some names and addresses and then email the schools you are interested in for more details
How do I get started acting in Michigan?
I have taken acting classes in college, acted in many high school plays, and been in a few student films. I want to start getting a more professional acting career/resume together before moving out to LA. How would you suggest I go about g improving my chances in LA right now, while still living in Michigan?
Also, I have taken my own headshots (I know it sounds dangerous but I am a professional photographer) and I have written a decent beginner’s acting Resume.
There are regional theatre companies in every state. I imagine you’ll have to go to a major city like Lansing or Detroit but also places like Grand Rapids or even Battle Creek might have companies that offer ways to work toward an Equity card. After you get into Equity, a lot more resources should become available to you for classes and audition information. Get Daily Variety or one of the other show biz papers so you can see what’s out there. If there are any good film locations in Michigan it would be great if you could get yourself there for extra work. Your best bet is to keep watch in these little papers to know what’s going on in film or theatre. Some traveling road shows use local people in bit parts and it wouldn’t hurt to land something small when it can lead you to much bigger prospects in the future. Any-way, I hope this helps you. Best of luck!
Spanish vocabulary relating to theater?
Hey, can anybody give or find me a list of Spanish vocabulary relating to theater, prepping for a show, etc.? In a few days I’m going to be working backstage on a show being put on by a bunch of people who don’t know English, only Spanish. It’s a bit insane. I’ve been taking Spanish for 5 years, but I don’t think I have a lot of the words that I’ll need to be able to communicate effectively about getting ready for the show.
